For
this season’s knitwear inspiration, we look to the sky
and then back to the earth. These are two opposing directions,
one heavenly and future facing, the other grounded and ancient
in its appeal. These two diverse expressions co-exist by giving
us a great experience of both worlds. The qualities of the
air: lightweight, almost transparent and celestial grasp our
imagination in the intrepretation into an ultra feminine lace
and openwork trend. The materials of the earth also motivate
us: the mysterious, the slow and the natural with undulating
strata of ancient geological features inspiring colour blended
stripes, rustic textures and handcrafted artisan crochet.

Yarn
character for spring 14 explores many textures and surfaces,
the key looks are: ultra-light transparency, yarns inspired
by the air, a light touch of glimmer, fresh and neat, unrefined
stringy yarns, raw and unbleached linens, dry, slubbed and
irregular yarns. Rowan is promoting two stories to reflect
these major trends for the spring 2014 season: LEGACY
and CLARITY are descibed in detail along
with stitch, key looks, colour and yarn direction in the introduction
for each story. The ESSENTIALS collection
of the magazine takes a new direction this season by concentrating
on another major trend - stripes, whilst still promoting the
key shapes of the season.

CLARITY
•
... is inspired by the delicate beauty of historic lace and
Irish crochet making.
•
Antique floral lace patterns are interpreted to create modern
romantic lace.

to detail.
•

silhouettes.
