Yarn Trend
• Authentic ‘real yarns’ are expressed in
chunky candlewicks in soft wool and alpaca blends which show
off their natural colours beautifully but also in multicoloured
rustic and tweed yarns which are seen blended with mohair and
silk.
•
When combined with the rich saturated colours of classic wool
twists and silk/mohair blends, the unique character of these
tweedy yarns is accentuated by beautiful Swedish floral and
Scandinavian alpine inspirations.
• Classic wool and wool blended yarns feature prominently
this season with emphasis on soft handle. These yarns are worked
into elegant intricate textures and plain knit styles with a
modern 1950’s and 1960’s retro look.
We regret that this book is now out of print and have
no more stocks. We will be happy to send a copy of any design
(free of charge) when the yarn is purchased for it.

Trend
• Winter 2011 will be knit dominated. The total knitted
outfit will make a comeback and everything from socks to hair
bands will become a focus for knit design.
•
We will see the extremes of feminine dressing with heavily
layered and slightly vagabond looks contrasting with the elegance
of the return to womanly curves and the feminine ‘nipped
in’ waistline.

Story
1 - WILDWOOD is inspired by an ornate tapestry of
reclaimed and time worn florals and heritage country wear.
In an autumnal palette of tobacco brown, loden green and gunmetal
grey, highlighted by rich chamois, burnt orange, clotted cream
and oxblood. Wildwood’ is a collection formed out eclectic
mixes of historic baroque, oriental and Swedish florals with
heirloom arans mixed, cables and moss stitch combine with
handcrafted crochet and sampler embroidery. Shapes are folded,
tucked and clinched for fit and function. Cape coats, primitive
blanket coat wraps, boyfriend oversized slouchy jumpers and
cardigans with contrast patterns and textures as well as fitted
layer sweaters are the key shapes.

2 - FINESSE is one of the most directional looks for
next winter’s dressing. The collection is inspired by
retro influences drawn from the late 1950’s and early
1960’s. ‘Finesse’ is a mood that heralds a
return to feminine curves with emphasis on a rounded hip line
and narrow waist. Post impressionist art influences the colour
palette with delicate shades of pistachio and saffron mixed
with rose pinks being the key shades with clay, mushroom and
winter white providing the important neutrals. Classically understated,
the knits are sleek and lean, softly following the body contours.
Details are discreet or hidden with neat single collars, tiny
metallic buttons and ribbon add the perfect feminine touches.
Stitches are simple with lots of plain neat-fit knits with tiny
vintage stitches, fairisle and fine lace.

translate them into simplified, easy to wear styles that will
compliment the season’s essential looks. The key trends
are belted cardigans, boyfriend sweaters, chunky jackets,
cropped sweaters and cardigans, knitted capes and drapey knits.
These trends are worked into a simple neutral colour palette
‘Winter Essentials’ also combines the key fabric
trends of bobbles, heritage cables and Nordic stitch patterning
in an uncomplicated but modern way.

and qualities that were once the original designs, have
to be substituted; we can advise on the nearest shades.
