BABY
SURI ALPACA
There are two breeds of alpaca, the Huacaya and the much rarer
Suri which is currently only 3% of the world's alpaca population. The
Suri alpaca produces a fleece of very unique, rope-like locks
that drape down both sides of the animal in different lengths
and produces a fibre which has a beautiful rich and silky
soft handle with a exquisite lustre. Fibre from the first
fleece of the Suri alpaca is even softer and is termed 'Baby
Suri Alpaca'. The largest population of Suri alpacas are in
Peru, Bolivia and China with some large herds now in North
America, Australia, New Zealand and even the UK. Bred solely
for their beautiful sustainable fleeces, the Suri alpaca is
a particularly alert, friendly and intelligent animal and
lives to between 15 and 25 years of age.
